Biochips
Biochips or microarrays have proved to be highly effective for the simultaneous detection of large numbers of analytes in a sample. They are emerging as important analytical tools in diagnostic applications as well as in biomedical sciences. A biochip-based analytical strategy is quicker and more convenient than serial testing of each analyte and enables the generation of much more information all at the same time.
Currently a variety of biochip types are being used successfully:
-
DNA microarrays (cDNA microarrays and oligonucleotide microarrays)
-
Protein microarrays
-
Tissue microarrays
-
Transfection microarrays (also called cell microarrays)
-
Chemical Compound Microarrays
-
Antibody microarrays
