Biochips

Biochips

Biochips or microarrays have proved to be highly effective for the simultaneous detection of large numbers of analytes in a sample. They are emerging as important analytical tools in diagnostic applications as well as in biomedical sciences. A biochip-based analytical strategy is quicker and more convenient than serial testing of each analyte and enables the generation of much more information all at the same time.

Currently a variety of biochip types are being used successfully:

  • DNA microarrays (cDNA microarrays and oligonucleotide microarrays)
  • Protein microarrays
  • Tissue microarrays
  • Transfection microarrays (also called cell microarrays)
  • Chemical Compound Microarrays
  • Antibody microarrays
